(I linked to it from this blog). Your experience with haggling in the Mediterranean are interesting... I've had similar stuff happen to me before! It's always useful to see it through the cultural lens... if only you'd know that *before* your market excursions... ;)Laura Resauhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15492442901779966554noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9214824605713956731.post-53322726508243801462011-11-01T18:25:25.472-06:002011-11-01T18:25:25.472-06:00It's really interesting reading about how some...It's really interesting reading about how something seemingly insignificant like a persons weight can mean different things in different cultures. A few years ago my family had the opportunity to travel to the Mediterranean and one of the most stressful parts of the entire trip was warding off people who wanted to sell things - even in non-touristy parts of cities. I found out later that it was part of the cultures to haggle over prices!

I said a few weeks ago I was writing a review of The Queen of Water, and I finally have it posted on my blog: http://justbyjosephine.blogspot.com/2011/11/book-review-queen-of-water-by-laura.htmljustbyjohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18164438305312333876noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9214824605713956731.post-60144015167190706932011-10-26T09:07:33.752-06:002011-10-26T09:07:33.752-06:00Thanks for your comments, ladies!

These pictures of the Andes are also familiar. I loved the soups when I was in Otavalo and Zuleta and last Christmas I received as a gift one family's recipes that had been handed down for generations for the wonderful quinoa and potato soups. The people of the Andes just grab hold of your heart! This is a lovely story.Katiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09310731783645112479noreply@blogger.com
